About Ground Control

Ground Control is a full-service satellite communications provider and system manufacturer offering high-speed fixed, mobile, portable and maritime solutions for thousands of organizations throughout the world.

History
Ground Control was founded in 2002 as a reseller of Mobile Satellite Internet Systems and Services. Ground Control provided systems and services not only for recreational RVers, but contracted with Government Agencies, Emergency Responders, Military, Corporations, Mining/Oil & Gas Companies, and many other private businesses to insure remote communications and maintenance of business continuity.

Ground Control’s portfolio of services expanded into Fixed Satellite Internet Ground Stations with the addition of our Galileo VSAT service. Galileo's terrestrial-like performance enabled clients to run sophisticated business applications like VPN, VoIP, Citrix & Video that traditionally had unreliable performance over satellite internet services.

In 2005, Ground Control launched its own fully motorized, auto-acquire Mobile Satellite Internet System.  The .74m MSS using consumer VSAT service networks, giving RVer’s, small businesses, and local government entities a cost effective mobile satellite internet system.  The larger .95m MSS used the Galileo business service, enabling corporations, government organizations, emergency management providers, and more to have a truly mobile office environment anywhere they had a clear view of the southern sky.

In 2006, a new service became available through Ground Control, Private Networks.  Clients could create a private network from their remote site/sites having their online traffic either bypassing the open internet cloud or traversing it as encrypted data.  Total Private Networks utilized either dedicated circuits between the Satellite NOC and the client data center or went Point to Point.  Enhanced Private Networks allowed the client to have a VPN device installed at Ground Control’s NOC, encrypting data packets over the open internet cloud and minimizing the performance hit that comes from encrypting data over a higher latency internet connection.

In 2007, Ground Control became a leading reseller of portable and in-motion BGAN systems and services, becoming a truly global provider.  BGAN terminals can be used almost anywhere in the world whether the client is in equatorial Africa, Papua New Guinea, or Kansas.

In 2008, Ground Control debuted the .98m TOUGHSAT, a fully ruggedized motorized, auto-acquire Mobile Satellite Internet System.  The .98m TOUGHSAT is designed to endure harsh environments, high winds, and to deploy in approximately 3 minutes or less.  This same year, Ground Control launched its iDirect Premium Satellite Internet service.  This flexible, affordable, and robust satellite internet platform enables clients to enjoy fast, high quality VSAT internet service domestically or internationally.  iDirect service, with its patented D-TDMA and MF-TDMA technologies, balances traffic across all carriers on the satellite, increasing the amount of available bandwidth and providing increased security.  Payload efficiency is approximately 98%.  iDirect supports applications like Video Streaming, Voice, VPN without connection timeouts or throttling.

In 2009, Ground Control expanded into Maritime Systems and Services through the Fleet Broadband network and Aviation Swift Broadband Service.  Inmarsat’s BGAN service is now available through Ground Control for Land, Sea, and Air.

In 2010, Ground Control added new international satellite connectivity solutions for mobile and fixed satellite systems as well as maritime solutions for world-wide connectivity. Our international infrastructure is designed for customers with Star, Mesh, Point-to-Point or a Hybrid of satellite topologies, and tailored to each organization's IP requirements.

In 2011, Ground Control advanced manufacturing designs of all of our satellite systems, and create new products such as a new lightweight mobile solution The Football Global Internet case, and the larger VSAT Toughsat 1.2 meter mobile satellite system, and the new flagship product of our company. Our Network has expanded to many countries with specific attention to growth in the Middle East.

In 2012, Ground Control relocated our North American network operations center to Napa California. This grand facility has redundant fiber lines to multiple backbones and provides more space for customer co-located equipment. Ground Control continues flourish in our four areas of specialization... Fixed, Mobile, Portable and Maritime satellite communications solutions.
